Som et par flittige og opmærksomme brugere har opdaget, så går der i disse dage rygter om et nyt Counter-Strike på vej.
Det kan udledes af flere forskellige kilder, men først af fremmest af vores "egen"
Steffen '3k2' Markussen, der mest er kendt fra Source-scene, hvor han skriver følgende på en tråd hos reddit:
"So yeah, it's called CS:Global Offensive (not 100% sure that is how it's written, but CS:GO is the short name). We didn't have to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, but they did ask us to not give out any pictures or videos from there before it is released."
3k2 har altså været på besøg hos Valve for at hjælpe dem med at udvikle det nye Counter-Strike. Ordet Counter-Strike: Global Offensive kommer af titlen på det nye spil, der efter sigende skulle være bygget på Source-enginen.

Hos Valve selv vil målet være at kombinere både 1.6 og Source, og danne et spil der både er sjovt og kompetitivt ifølge ESFi World:
"ESEA News today further cemented the truth behind the rumors, stating that Craig "Torbull" Levine, the owner of ESEA, had been one of the invitees to help develop the game. Furthermore, a mysterous Reddit thread has been posted, in which the author claims to be play-testing the game. He claims that Valve wish to fix mistakes made in previous versions of the game, although their main target audience aren't only the former competitive communities of 1.6 or Source. Instead, they would rather attract a new community that combines both Counter-Strike 1.6 and CS: Source communities, competitive and casual gamers a like. Valve have brought over several Europeans and American play-testers to help move development along."
